In just his third year as a pro, Devin White has already become one of the most feared linebackers in the NFL.

Born and raised in Springhill, Louisiana, Devin attended North Webster High School and rose to notoriety on the gridiron as a running back. In fact, through his four years there, Devin totaled 5,031 yards and 81 touchdowns on the ground, which included a senior year performance of 1,650 yards and 31 touchdowns. Simultaneously, Devin saw time at linebacker as well, finishing his high school career with 192 tackles. His overall football ability earned him the No. 3 athlete label by ESPN while also being tabbed as the No. 12 overall prospect in Louisiana by Rivals. With an attractive recruiting profile, Devin White accepted an offer from LSU to stay in-state and play for the Tigers.

In his first year in Death Valley, Devin saw action as a linebacker in all 12 games, tallying 30 tackles, 3.0 tackles for loss, and one sack, while also adding 10 tackles on special teams. Though limited in his role, Devin still earned Freshman All-SEC honors on the season. The following year, Devin broke out in statement fashion, starting in all 13 games and ending the season with 133 tackles, good for second in the SEC, a team-leading 14 tackles for loss, and 4.5 sacks. In ten different games, Devin had double-digit tackles, which tied a program record for such games. Devin’s exceptional season notched him a spot on the First-Team All-SEC and Second-Team All-American.

2018, which would be Devin’s final year in Baton Rouge, saw the best version of Devin till date, as he went on to register a conference-leading 123 tackles, 12 tackles for loss, three sacks, three forced fumbles, two fumble recoveries, and six pass breakups. Twice that season, Devin was named SEC Defensive Player of the Week, including a Week 7 game against No. 2 Georgia in which he tallied 13 tackles along with a fumble recovery and a Week 13 game against Texas A&M in which he forced a fumble that was returned for a touchdown. Undoubtedly, Devin was once again named to the First-Team All-SEC.

Having entered his name for draft eligibility for the 2019 NFL draft following his junior year, Devin was selected at number five overall by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Immediately, Devin showed the league why he was selected so high, completing his rookie season with 91 tackles, four tackles for loss, 2.5 sacks, one interception, three passes defended, three forced fumbles, and four fumble recoveries, two of which he returned for touchdowns. In Week 9, Devin announced his arrival to the league, registering a half sack and forcing two fumbles against the Seahawks. Then in December, Devin turned heads across the league, adding 29 tackles, one forced fumble, three fumble recoveries, and two return touchdowns. His first career touchdown came against the Jaguars, in which he scooped a fumble and returned it 14 yards for the score, after which he returned another fumble 91 yards for a touchdown four weeks later against the Falcons. In both November and December of that year, Devin was named NFL Defensive Rookie of the Month.

In 2020, Devin elevated his play, totaling 140 tackles, nine sacks, and a forced fumble, as the Buccaneers went on to clinch a postseason spot for the first time since 2007. In the postseason, Devin was arguably the league’s best defensive player, as he recorded 38 tackles, two fumble recoveries, and two interceptions, leading Tampa Bay to the franchise’s second ever Super Bowl win. In the Super Bowl, Devin had the game sealing interception for the Buccaneers and capped off a defensive masterpiece. For his entire season performance, Devin earned Second-Team All-Pro honors.

Now in year three, Devin is playing the linebacker position like none other, already with 61 tackles through eight games this season.
